Stupid me AGAIN. I really am the most stupid trainer ever. We were doing well with 5 on each but then I get stupid and try 10. WHY WHY WHY. I really am so annoyed at myself.

Keeping up the system of 5 treats then cuddle time. It seems to be working well.

Started with paw touch – understands much better when my hand is slightly raised off the ground and at an angle. Will try and reduce this. Tomorrow I am starting to add a target object. I think something large and obvious to start but if that makes it seem like a different cue then it will have to be a small un-obvious target and then made bigger gradually.

Moved on to retrieve. I am not using the clicker for this but making the cue of "drop" to be the click. This is working well and she is gaining duration well (for her) up to around 4 seconds.

Zen next with cue of "out" – started this again because it was taught with slight corrective techniques when I didn’t know of clicker training. Going very well and I am mixing it up with treat in my hand and on the floor. Sometimes rewarding with the zen treat and other times with another one.

Worked on Chill again. She still isn’t great with the cue but we will keep going

Trying to rid the sessions of whining.

5 treats per behaviour. Stop and have cuddle time to signify the start of a new behaviour session.

Worked on eye contact – really good. First treat for a glance so she knows what behaviour I wanted as not on cue yet. Then next was 2 secs, then 3 then 4 then 2 to ensure success.

Retrieve worked next. Chucked the toy around to show her what I wanted her to be interested in. She got first click for taking it from my hand. Further 4 were from picking it from the floor as she holds longer this way. Want to get up to 30 seconds before cue added as she has such aversion to this. Managed 3 seconds.

Chill – lie flat on side. Trying to work on her cue for this as she doesn’t know it outside training sessions. No reward any longer for doing it without cue.

Paw target: She is used to targeting my hand when my hand up high. Started it on the floor and cued paw. Rewarded for paw hiting hand

Planned work to do this new year. Really trying to be more organised and work hard at the levels and not get distracted by other things lol!

Worked on eye contact again. Got up to three seconds very easily with me sitting on the floor with her. Treats coming from the mannersminder.

Got frustrated about her whining but have gained some great ideas to counteract this so will begin to work on it in separate sessions.

Really good session.

Having a lot of fun at the moment with her. Trying my own ways to get the behaviours on the levels just because I find eye contact boring and also makes me uncomfortable giving it. Think this is why Ziggi dislikes it too as she picks up on it.

I am not training for competition and enjoy experimenting and finding other ways to get what I want.

Been training some fun tricks too just to keep us entertained.

I want 2 behaviours to be really generalised to as many objects as possible:
"step" is to walk back and put back feet on the object.
"on" is to put front feet on any object pointed to.

Worked Target – Hand trying to build up time on it. I was clicking either an extended touch or two touches. I upped the criteria to three touches but it was too much.
Worked Front – Ziggi is concerned about her personal space so I am training her to target her feet to a sheet of paper. I will then bring the paper gradually nearer to me ready for a front.
Worked retrieve – Hold of a soft object for around 2 seconds. I don’t think we will ever pass this with metal!!!
